It sounds simple, but YOU should be in full control of your online IDENTITY as an artist.  Who else would be? Well,… Amazon, Facebook, Wikipedia, All Music Guide, Gracenote, etc.  Many times, through Distribution Avenues (CD BABY, TUNECORE) you will have your music, bio and CD information released to the world.  It was kind of cool the first time I went to Google and Typed in CAPONE DE LEON - THINKING OF A MASTER PLAN and saw all of the sites that my CD was being sold on.  When I started taking a look at some of these sites I noticed that not all the sites I was listed on had the information I WANTED posted to the web.  That is never a good thing!

With so many different pages, profiles, blogs, music stores, databases, and fan sites pointing to YOU, it can be difficult to keep everything consistent, accurate, and fresh. When your online presence starts to feel scattered, you end up spending valuable energy web mastering when you could be practicing, networking, recording, or performing.

WHICH MUSIC SITES ARE YOUR FAVORITE?

One of the keys to your promotion is your your musical identity. Part of that is your online identity, which should present a unified front whenever possible. Instead of feeling like your online presence is spreading ever outwards until you’re stretched infinitely thin, think of ways to make the many disparate sites converge on the central truth of “you.”  Some of the sites that are more important to artists should really be kept up to date and well informed.  You should know how to:

1. Set up an Amazon Artist Central page.

2. Set up a ReverbNation Account.

2. Submit your music, bio, and discography to All Music Guide.

3. Make sure your album info appears correctly in Gracenote.

But there are plenty more places online where your music, your biographical information, your writings, your concert calendars, your videos and your photos appear. Which sites matter to you? Let us know in the comments section below and we’ll do some research.
